SUMMARY:Valley Tales on the Greenway
DESCRIPTION:Community Partnership Brings the Past to Life \n  \nDerby Neck Library is teaming up with Derby Historical Society to bring you a new program series this summer: Valley Tales on Derby Greenway. \n  \nThis all-ages walking club meets on the Derby Greenway for a leisurely stroll along the Naugatuck River\, while listening to true stories from the Valley’s shared history. Meet at the Derby Greenway entrance at the end of Caroline Street in the Sullivan’s Island Gravel Lot at 9:00am on Thursdays from July 9th through August 6th to participate. \n  \nSome of the topics you’ll hear about are the history of the Greenway itself\, historical significance of the Naugatuck River\, Reverend Mansfield and the Church of England in CT\, and Revolutionary-era stories \n  \nParticipants are responsible for their own health and safety. Please review heat and weather conditions prior to participation. Walks will last approximately 30-60 minutes and cover 2-4 miles. \nTentative Schedule: \n7/9  Jack Walsh – History of the Greenway and its Fountain \n7/16 Kellie Santiago – The Valley’s Colonial Past \n7/23  Albert Misiewicz – Rev. Mansfield and The Church of England during the Revolutionary War Period \n7/30  Kellie Santiago – Gen. David Humphreys and his contributions to early America \n8/6  Peter and Barbara Rzasa – Seaport Stories
