SUMMARY:Stories of Connecticut's Black Patriots
DESCRIPTION:Stories of Connecticut’s Black Patriots \nPresented by John Mills of the Alex Breanne Corporation \n \n  \nSaturday\, May 30\, 2026 \n10:00am \nDavid Humphreys House\, 37 Elm Street\, Ansonia \n  \nTHIS PROGRAM IS FREE TO ATTEND \n  \n \n  \nAlthough many Black men served during the Revolutionary War\, the Militia Act of 1792 made it illegal for Black men to enlist in state militias. The 1862 Militia Act changed all of that\, leading to the creation of Connecticut’s 29th and 30th Colored Regiments during the Civil War. \nDuring this presentation\, Mills will delve into the many unknown stories representing the African American men who served during the Revolutionary War\, and the lineage of service within their families that continued into the Civil War. \n  \n  \nQuestions? \n203-735-1908 or info@derbyhistorical.org \n  \n \n  \n
